Leadoff man and fixer can do it. The LG Twins pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory behind a three-hit, three RBI, three run performance from outfielder Hong Chang-ki. The magic number for winning a regular season title in 29 years is now 18.
On September 16, LG won 10-4 against the SSG Landers in Jamsil. With the victory, LG won its second consecutive game and remained the league leader with 72 wins, two draws and 47 losses on the season. The gap to second-place KT WIZ is now six games.
LG faced SSG starter Oh Won-seok with a starting batting order of Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Shin Min-jae (second baseman), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), and Park Hae-min (center fielder).
LG got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki singled to left, stole second, and scored on a groundout to first by Kim Hyun-soo.
After a scoreless fifth inning from starter Casey Kelly, the LG offense added another run in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Park Hae-min singled to left, stole second and scored on Hong Chang-ki’s RBI single to right. Shin Min-jae followed with a single, and with runners on first and second, Kim Hyun-soo lined a single to right-center to make it 3-0.
However, Kelly’s cruise was interrupted in the top of the sixth. With one out in the top of the sixth, LG gave up back-to-back singles to Choo Shin-soo and Choi Jae-hoon and a walk to Choi Jeong to load the bases. They then gave up their first run on a single to right to Heredia and a double to center to Choi to tie the game at 3-3.
The LG bench sent Kelly down and brought up Jin-Sung Kim. LG gave up an RBI single to Park Sung-ho, but got out of the inning without further damage.
LG bounced right back in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with one out after a Moon Bo-kyung double and walks to Park Dong-won and Park Hae-min, but Hong Chang-ki hit a two-run double up the middle to make it a 5-4 game. Shin Min-jae followed with a two-run single to left-center that just cleared the shortstop’s height with runners on second and third.
LG took another step forward in the bottom of the seventh when Moon Bo-kyung hit a two-out RBI single to center field with runners on first and third after a leadoff double by Austin. Park Dong-won and Moon Sung-joo followed with back-to-back RBI singles to put the game out of reach.토토사이트
Along with Hong Chang-ki, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, Moon Bo-kyung also contributed with three hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Shin Min-jae (2 hits, 2 RBI), Kim Hyun-soo (1 hit, 2 RBI) and Park Dong-won (2 hits, 1 RBI, 1 run, 1 walk) also had multi-hit games. With a stolen base in the bottom of the fifth inning, Park became the second player in history to reach 20 stolen bases in 10 consecutive seasons. Park will now challenge Jung Geun-woo’s record of 11 consecutive 20-steal seasons in 2024.
On the mound, Kelly (5.1 innings, six hits, six strikeouts, two walks, four runs) was followed by Kim Jin-seong (0.2 innings, one hit, no runs), Yoo Young-chan (0.1 innings, two hits, no runs), Baek Seung-hyun (0.2 innings, no hits, two strikeouts, one walk), Choi Dong-hwan (one inning, two hits, no runs), and Lee Woo-chan (one inning, no runs) to close out the game.
