The British BBC said on the 5th (local time), “Many players of the Cameroon under-17 (U-17) national team failed the age test directed by Etoo.” (UNIFFAC) We are struggling to find a replacement ahead of the qualifiers.”

Following Eto’o’s instructions, the Cameroon Football Association conducted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging of U-17 team players. It is a method of confirming age through MRI of the growth plate of the wrist bone. Etoo said through the Cameroon Football Association, “We have given strict instructions to stop age manipulation that has damaged the image of Cameroonian football in the past.”

As a result, only 9 out of 30 players passed the test. The remaining 21 players who were judged to have lied about their age were immediately released from training camp. According to the BBC, 11 new players who were additionally called up also packed up immediately after failing to pass the test.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) also introduced MRI testing from the 2009 U-17 World Cup to prevent exaggeration of the age of African players.
