The Gangneung High School baseball team has advanced to the round of 16 in the 57th President’s Cup National High School Baseball Tournament.
Led by head coach Choi Jae-ho, Gangneung High defeated Daegu High 4-1 in game two at Shinwol Baseball Stadium in Seoul on May 5. On that day, Gangneung started ace third-year right-hander Yook Cheong-myeong and Daegu started left-hander Bae Chan-seung, a second-year youth national team member. With their aces on the mound, neither team scored until the fourth inning.
It was Gangneung that broke the ‘0’ balance. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, second baseman Jung Jae-woo hit a grounder to shortstop. However, a throwing error by the opposing defense allowed two runners to cross the plate. After the sixth inning ended with a triple play, the Gangneungo bats exploded again in the seventh. With runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh, Jung Jae-woo singled up the middle, and Lee Yul-ye singled through the right side of the infield to make it 4-0.
Gangneunggo gave up one run in the top of the eighth inning, but it didn’t affect their chances of victory, as they held on for the 4-1 win and advanced to the round of 16. Gangneung had the same five hits as Daegu, but won the error battle (3 for Daegu, 0 for Gangneung) to punch their ticket to the Round of 16.토토사이트
