Only one hit allowed against Wonju

Gangneung High’s pitching staff pitched a near-perfect game to shut out local rivals Wonju and advance to the round of 16 in the Cheongnyonggi.

Gangneung Go defeated Wonju 2-0 in the second game (Round of 32) of the 78th Cheongnyonggi National High School Baseball Championship and Weekend League Wangjoong Wangjeon (co-hosted by Chosun Ilbo, Sports Chosun and the Korea Baseball Softball Association) at Mokdong Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, on the 19th.

Gangneung scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning on Jung Jae-woo’s RBI single to left field and Park Chae-woon’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With the batting support, the Gangneungo pitching staff shut down the Wonju bats. Starting right-hander Yuk Cheong-myung (junior) struck out seven in four innings of no-hit ball, while Cheon Bum-seok (sophomore) took over on the mound and also did not allow a hit in three innings. Sophomore Dae-hyun Cho gave up a single to left to Won-joo and Seung-seung Jung (sophomore) with runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, but retired the next two batters he faced to preserve the win. It was unfortunate that they allowed five hits on four pitches.토토사이트

“Yuk Cheong-myung pitched well and laid the foundation for the win,” said Gangneung head coach Choi Jae-ho, “We are learning one game at a time. No matter what team we face, we will do our best,” he said.

“I’d give myself a 60 (out of 100) for my performance today because I had (two) four-pointers in the middle,” said Yuk, who started and pitched well. “My most confident pitch is my slider. I will go beyond the quarter-finals, which is my primary goal, to the championship.”
