Hanwha Jeonseo’s 6th inning 2 run comeback
Reporter Seo Jang-won = Returning KIA Tigers homegrown ace Yang Hyun-jong (35) pitched well in his comeback and got the win.
Yang pitched six innings of five-hit, four-strikeout, two-run ball against the Hanwha Eagles in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KIA Champions Field in Gwangju on Saturday.
It’s been about two months since Yang has had a quality start (six or more innings pitched and three or fewer earned runs allowed) since June 24 against the KT Wiz (six innings, one run, no walks).
Yang, who had been a steady fixture in the starting rotation since the start of the season, was sent down to the second team on June 16 in order to rebuild after a slump that began in July and continued into August.
Yang Hyun-jong returned to the first team today, just ten days after his rehabilitation without pitching in the second team. It was his first appearance in 11 days since the 15th against the Kiwoom Heroes.
Yang Hyun-jong, who didn’t give up a run until the second inning with a “salty pitch” that allowed only one hit, suddenly faltered in the third inning.
After giving up a hit to leadoff hitter Lee Jin-young, Yang was pushed to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lee Do-yoon. He then gave up a double to Moon Hyun-bin that went over the back of the infield for his first run.
Yang then got Kim Tae-yeon to fly out to third base, but gave up a double to left-center to Noh Si-hwan. After giving up two runs, Yang Hyun-jong got Chae Eun-sung to fly out to second base to put out the fire.
Despite the third inning setback, Yang settled right back down. After striking out the side in the fourth, she gave up a hit in the fifth but no runs, and in the sixth, she gave up just one hit and no runs to complete a quality start.토토사이트
After throwing 91 pitches in the sixth inning, Yang finished his job by handing the mound over to Lim Ki-young in the seventh.
The offense responded by scoring six runs while Yang was on the mound, giving him the win.
If Yang Hyun-jong gets the win, it will be his first start in just over a month since he won against the SSG Landers on March 6. It would also tie him for the most starts in the KBO. The record in that category is 163, held by Song Jin-woo (retired).
Yang Hyun-jong, who earned 162 of his 164 career wins as a starter, is closing in on the record.
