St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, one of the best third basemen in the majors, has raised eyebrows by addressing the possibility of a trade.
Speaking to local media at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, home of the All-Star Game, Arenado said, “I could be in the trade rumor mill, that’s business. “I’ve been traded once,” he said, “and it was a shock to a lot of people, including me. It shocked a lot of people at the time, including me. But I don’t think I’m surprised anymore because it can happen on this floor.”
A fan-voted National League All-Star, Arenado was named to the starting lineup at third base for the 93rd All-Star Game against the American League on Sunday.
Arenado’s comments about a possible trade come as the Reds’ chances of making the playoffs have dwindled. The Cardinals finished the first half of the season in last place in the NL Central with a 38-52 record. They are 11.5 games behind the division-leading Cincinnati Reds and 11 games behind the third wild-card spot, the San Francisco Giants.
St. Louis is expected to give up on the playoffs and rebuild.
“I think people are surprised by what happened to us this year,” Arenado said. “It was a tough first half. Nobody wanted this result. I know the St. Louis fans are disappointed,” Arenado said. “I would still be surprised if something happened, but I can understand that something has to happen.”카지노사이트
The implication is that he knows he could be traded, which could be interpreted as him wanting to be traded.
In 86 games in the first half, Arenado hit .283 (94-for-332) with 19 home runs, 62 RBIs, 43 runs scored and an OPS of 850. Arenado, who is making his eighth consecutive All-Star Game, had won the NL Gold Glove at third base for 10 straight years until last year. He is considered one of the best third basemen in history when it comes to defense.
He came to St. Louis from the Colorado Rockies via trade in January 2021. Arenado, who signed an eight-year, $260 million extension in February 2019 while in Colorado, will not become a free agent until after the 2027 season.
